Privacy
How we handle your data.
Draft — describes how the site currently works. Awaiting the owner’s review (and legal review where applicable) before launch.
What we collect
- Questions you type are normalised and counted anonymously (the wording, whether we answered it, rough device type). We don’t store IP addresses; rate limiting uses a daily-rotating one-way hash held only in memory.
- Engagement counts: deliberate actions such as using the what-if slider or sharing a link, recorded as an event name and calculator only. No identifiers. Skipped if your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.
- Suggestions you send through the suggestion form, stored for editorial review. Please don’t include personal details.
- Admin accounts: email and sign-in data for editors only.
Stored on your device
Favourites, recently viewed questions and your analytics choice are kept in your browser’s local storage and never sent to us. Clear them any time from your browser.
Analytics and advertising
If Google Analytics is switched on, it loads with Google Consent Mode set to “denied” and only stores analytics cookies after you allow it. Advertising is off. If it is ever switched on, ads will only load alongside a certified consent platform where the law requires one.
Retention
- Anonymous search and engagement counts: 90 days.
- Rejected or spam suggestions: 90 days.
- Calculation error logs: 180 days.
Shared links and result cards
Share links and downloadable cards contain only calculator inputs and the result, never the question you typed.
